How the Anti-Spam protection work?

SpamAssassin, first blocks the e-mails coming from internet servers that are on a black list RBL' S. After it carries out a great number of tests on the contents and the headings of the messages (format of the heading, relation text-image-HTML, etc.) to detect the spams. The system marks the e-mail detected like Spam by adding the chain ***** Spam ***** in the "Subjet" field. The result of the tests is inserted into the beginning of the message.

The marked messages "spams" are easy to filter with the tools integrated in the most current e-mail software.

We recommend to move automatically all the e-mail marked as Spam towards a special folder (for example "Spam") You can accomplish that by creating a message rule in your e-mail software, this has a double advantage:

  • the "normal" e-mails are no longer mixed with the Spam.
  • You can verify this folder from time to time to check that the e-mails there are really spams.

TAKE NOTE: It is possible that some "normal" e-mails are filtered by error (rare, but possible), or that spams pass by error. They are called False Positive . It is important to check from time to time your messages mark as "Spam" to find out if some messages were filtered by error.
If you find a message which was filtered in the wrong manner; you can modify the permissions for a specific e-mail address by going to the Plesk control panel.
